NOTE FROM STEVE AND REBECCA LOY – “Thank you, All Souls family, for the way you reached out to us and our family after the loss of my brother, David. Your care, presence, and many practical expressions of the love of Christ did not go unnoticed. You ministered the grace and love of God to us and our loved ones in a time of great need.”

img_5195.jpg Worship is an active response to God that is both personal and corporate.

Personally, worship is part of the daily lifestyle of following Christ. It is the ongoing "sacred conversation" of a holy relationship. It is my personal response to God as He reveals truth about Himself to my heart from day to day.

Corporately, as the church, we set aside time to come together weekly to worship God in a more focused and ordered manner; to "make a pilgrimage" to the throne of God very much like the pilgrimage described in Old Testament times, both in the Tabernacle and the Temple, and later in the early church.

  • Worship is the life-source of the Christian life.
  • Worship is what reminds us of what is true.
  • Worship is coming together to seek God, and then being sent back out into the world to seek its peace.
  • Worship is a pilgrimage from the "outer gates of the temple" towards "the Holy of Holies," the very presence of God.
  • Worship cleanses us, renews us, heals us, and prepares us to go back out into the city.

Excerpts from a sermon entitled, "Seeking the Peace of the City through Worship," by Doug Banister, 7-24-05 . For a more complete detailed teaching on why we worship as we do, you can download the audio sermon and/or a transcript of this sermon.
